TDS Adjustment Calculator
Get step-by-step instructions for adjusting your tank TDS safely. Works for both raising and lowering TDS.
How to Use This Calculator
For Lowering TDS
Use this when your tank TDS has crept up from evaporation, overfeeding, or mineral buildup.
- 1. Select "Lower TDS" direction
- 2. Enter your current and target TDS values
- 3. Enter your water source TDS (0 for pure RO/DI)
- 4. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided
For Raising TDS
Use this when your TDS is too low, perhaps after adding too much RO water or diluting too much.
- 1. Select "Raise TDS" direction
- 2. Enter your current and target TDS values
- 3. Enter the TDS of your higher-TDS water source
- 4. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided
TDS Adjustment Best Practices
Go Gradual
Don't change TDS more than 20-30 ppm per day. Sudden changes can shock your shrimp and trigger failed molts.
Verify Results
Always measure TDS after making changes. Actual results may vary slightly from calculations due to mixing.
Use Drip Method
When adding new water, use a drip method to slowly acclimate your tank. This reduces stress on your shrimp.
Prevention is Better
Regular small water changes prevent large TDS swings. Top-off evaporation with RO water (not remineralized) to maintain stable TDS. Only use remineralized water for actual water changes where you remove old water first.
